Our Story and Purpose

As young students eager to present our scholarly research, we came to the realization that there was a lack of platforms for young people to voice opinions about global studies. Whereas in other fields our peers were able to submit and publish their work, we found there existed no forum for us to share our research. Thus, stemming from a desire for representation and opportunity, we sought to create a peer review publication of high quality scholarly work from a young person's perspective. Spurred on by our aspirations and support from others, we further found a distinct lack of representation in the media of a young person's perspective, something which through our education we've come to understand can be very valuable. Consequently, in creating the Millennial Global Review, our aspiration for the project can be broken into two pieces.
First, we want to create opportunity where one doesn't exist. To be able to publish one's work alone is an achievement and a validating testament to one's research; however, the real incentive is the opportunity for continued research which a publication creates. As college students in global studies, many people are able to publish their work and use that as a basis for speaking at events, writing on a issue, and potentially attaining a job or internship. All of these things are doors yet to be opened for people not in college. Even while our work may be comparable in quality, our age often disqualifies us from being heard. In our minds, if the product is comparable, the perspective unique, and the vision bold, there should be no reason for a number to stand in the way of intelligent, young, and driven high school students.
Second, we feel that our age is actually an advantage because it gives us a new, unique, and open minded perspective on issues. While our approach to covering the world's events may not be conventional, we are not afraid to try something different and set ourselves apart from traditional media. The majority of news people take in today highlights conflict, and disregards all other events. While conflict is certainly an important aspect of understanding current events, if the goal is truly to pursue progress, then covering consensus and compromise as equals to conflict is the only way to present happenings in a manner which keeps people as informed as possible. Thus, in writing and publishing under the label of MGR, we will seek to cover opportunity and peril, solutions and issues, and perspectives from all walks of life. If we can help our viewers gain a more holistic worldview and become well informed, educated citizens, then we have performed a service we are proud to provide.
Lastly, if you have any comments, ideas, or reflections on our project let us know and we will do our best to get back to you. Ultimately, this project is our aspiration for a world where people like us aren't limited by age, but rather empowered by it and feel compelled to speak their mind. Our most basic mission is to provide a new perspective on the world around us, while opening up opportunities for publication to high school students. Thus we encourage your support in spreading our message.

Thank you,
Your Board of Directors and the MGR Team
